When I was about 12, my mother joined a club for its facilities in Pangkor Island so we could spend weekends there. They had their own little speed boat so we didn't need to use the public ferry. I remember the manager's daughters, two beautiful girls, sadly they were older than I. During low tides, we could walk from the main island to a little island which you see in the photo via a narrow path formed when opposing waves pushes the sand together. I don't recall exactly when it was that their owner suddenly closed down the business, ran off abroad with all the members' money and this place was left to rot. The local villagers then came to strip valuable wood from the boardwalks to build their illegal homes and other buildings on land that is not theirs, and now what is left is an ugly sight of what was once a beautiful recreational establishment.
